It is usually assumed that welfare can be divided into components relating to health, education, position on labour market, income, housing conditions, social relationships and influence. In this project we study the dependency between health and the other components of welfare and the possible changes in this relationship over time and space. We are especially interested in the possibilities to intervene in the interplay by political measures. Thus we will pay special attention to factors causing changes in the covariation of the welfare components over time.We will also make international and regional comparisons of differences in these relationships between different socio-economic groups. On the individual level we will pay special attention to the effects of the sense of coherence on the interplay between the different components of welfare. The analysis is mainly based on the large database already in use by the researchers, but some new data will also be gathered. The project is supervised by the Centre of Welfare Research in Turku and is a joint-project between the University of Turku and Åbo Akademi University.
